Winemaker's Notes:
When Rod Strong first acquired benchland acreage on Westside Road just behind the winery, he wisely chose to leave untouched the 15 acres of old, gnarled Zinfandel vines that have been thriving there since 1904. Today we still harvest Zinfandel from those same old vines, along with a few vineyards we farm to the north in the Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys.
• Our Old Vines Zinfandel represents
the best of our estate planted Zinfandel grapes from Sonoma County.• The grapes are grown predominantly on thirty-plus-year-old vines in the most ideal locations with soil and climate conditions that favor Zinfandel.
• These old and gnarly aged vines are lower yielding, resulting in concentrated, intense and flavorful wine.
• Fresh, bright berry fruit from the Russian River Valley, combined with ripe, peppery jam from our Alexander Valley and
Dry Creek Valley vineyards, makes for wonderful diversity of flavor, showcasing the best that Zinfandel can offer.TASTING NOTES Old Vines offers aromas of black cherry and vanilla, which lead to a rich palate of plum, boysenberry and black pepper. Elegant and silky, this wine has refined tannins and is extremely well balanced.
